A side-by-side comparison has put K/DA’s “VILLAIN” concept video next to a music video that came out four years earlier, and the match is hard to unsee.
The older clip is “Разведи небо” (transliterated as “Razvedi nebo,” roughly “Part the Sky”), a Russian-language track by Latvian singer Aminata released in 2016. The K/DA video dropped in 2020 as part of Riot Games’ ALL OUT era.
The overlapping section is short but specific. Both videos feature a dark rectangular pool or sunken chamber, fire burning inside it, a woman lying or posed in the middle of that space, high overhead camera angles, and pointed fingers moving above the performer’s head. The shots also appear to run in a similar order.
Viewers who watched the full Aminata video say the resemblance goes beyond the clip that was first shared, with additional shots lining up too.
Homage or homework
That’s where it stands. Nobody has said whether Aminata’s video was on the mood board, whether anyone asked for permission, or whether a license quietly changed hands years ago. It’s also possible both teams pulled from the same fashion-film trends that were everywhere in 2016.
Riot has not commented. Neither Aminata nor Gavriss has publicly complained, and silence doesn’t prove anything either way: no lawsuit exists, but no paperwork has surfaced either.
For now, the only confirmed part is the timeline: Aminata’s video came first, by roughly four years.
