Twitch star Pokimane launched into an unfiltered rant about extreme wealth inequality during a recent livestream, targeting billionaires while drawing a clear distinction between her own financial success and the vastly greater resources of the ultra-wealthy.
The streamer, whose real name is Imane Anys, didn’t hold back when sharing her frustration with how wealth is concentrated among a tiny fraction of the population.
Her comments definitely got people talking, especially since they came soon after she showed off expensive shopping trips in Paris, including stays in luxury hotels and splurging on high-end purchases.
“I hate rich people,” Pokimane stated during her stream, quickly clarifying that her issue lies specifically with the “ultra-rich”—billionaires who store up wealth at levels she considers terrible for society.
Despite her own multi-million dollar fortune from streaming contracts, sponsorship deals, and business ventures like her branded cookies, Pokimane described herself as totally separate from the economic class she was calling out. Financial experts put her net worth somewhere between $6–20 million.
This isn’t the first time Pokimane has talked about money on stream. Previously, she made the news by asking fans to stop donating huge sums, saying she had “enough” money and didn’t want her viewers spending more on her—a rare move among top streamers.
The apparent disconnect between criticizing the super-rich while enjoying luxury shopping sprees didn’t slip by viewers. Many pointed out the mixed message of calling out the rich after dropping thousands on designer clothes and staying in hotels that charge more per night than many fans make each month.
Others backed her up, pointing out that even with Pokimane’s impressive bank account, there’s a massive difference between her and a billionaire.
