Sony has officially revealed Until Dawn 2, a sequel to the 2015 cult horror hit, with a brand new announce trailer for PS5.

The trailer drops a fresh group of young adults into what looks like a sunny, vacation-style location before everything goes sideways. Think less snowy mountain lodge, more tropical getaway gone wrong. The familiar formula is still there though: a doomed ensemble cast, cinematic horror, and player choices that decide who lives and who dies.

The big shake-up is behind the scenes. The sequel is being developed by Firesprite, the UK-based PlayStation Studios team Sony acquired in 2021. That means original developer Supermassive Games, the studio that built the Until Dawn franchise and went on to make The Dark Pictures Anthology and The Quarry, isn’t involved this time around.

Firesprite is best known for The Persistence and co-developing Horizon Call of the Mountain for PS VR2. Reports suggest several writers and designers who worked on the original Until Dawn have since moved to Firesprite, which could explain why Sony trusted them with the IP.

The trailer ditches Blackwood Mountain entirely. There’s no wendigo lodge, no snowed-in cabin, and seemingly no returning cast. Instead, viewers get a warmer, daylight-heavy setting with a new group of characters, hints of weapons training, a pool scene, and the inevitable descent into violence. The track playing over it all is “How Villains Are Made” by Madalen Duke, which heavily suggests the story will lean into betrayal and characters turning on each other.

Dr. Hill might still be lurking

Eagle-eyed viewers spotted what looks like Dr. Hill appearing in a red room during the trailer. That’s a notable callback, especially since the 2024 Until Dawn remake added new sequel-bait scenes involving Sam and a similar red room setup. So while the cast is new, the wider Until Dawn mythology may still be in play.

This announcement caps a busy stretch for the franchise. Sony released the Until Dawn remake for PS5 and PC in 2024, followed by a film adaptation in 2025 that used the survive-the-night premise rather than directly adapting the game. Until Dawn 2 looks set to follow the same anthology-style logic, treating the title as a horror brand rather than a single storyline.
