Backrooms director Kane Parsons says he is working on three “dream projects.” He won’t say what they are.
Parsons was reportedly wearing a Valve hoodie. Naturally, fans went straight to Portal.
Others named Half-Life, Team Fortress, Left 4 Dead, and even Ricochet. But a Valve hoodie is just a Valve hoodie. It isn’t proof of a deal, a job, or a hint. Nothing links Parsons to any Valve project.
Fans also debated how a Portal movie would even work, since the games are mostly puzzles. Popular ideas included a sci-fi escape story inside Aperture Science or a story about Doug Rattmann or Cave Johnson. All of it is fan wishlisting.
Portal movie talk isn’t new. J.J. Abrams and Gabe Newell discussed Portal and Half-Life films at the 2013 D.I.C.E. Summit. In 2021, Abrams said a Portal script was being written at Warner Bros. There’s been no real news since. Dan Trachtenberg, who directed the 2011 fan short Portal: No Escape, often gets named in these conversations too. None of this connects to Parsons.
