A former Starfield developer doesn’t think Starfield 2 is coming.

In an interview with FRVR, former lead systems designer Kurt Kuhlmann said a sequel will likely never happen because the first game was not “anywhere near successful enough” to justify one.

The developer also pointed to a bigger problem. He said the game’s vision needed more content than the team could make.

“Even with the size of the team that we had for Starfield, it wasn’t big enough to create the amount of content that the grand idea of the game really required. Like, we needed way more,” he said.

That makes sense when you look at the game’s pitch. Starfield has more than 1,000 planets. To fill them, Bethesda mixed handmade quests and locations with procedurally generated terrain and reused points of interest.

For many players, the developer’s comments matched what they saw in the game. Repeated locations and empty planets were common complaints after launch.
