The cult-favorite stealth series Styx is making a long-awaited comeback with Styx: Blades of Greed, as revealed in a new trailer showcasing the goblin assassin’s next adventure. Scheduled for a fall 2025 release, this marks the end of an eight-year hiatus since the last installment in the franchise.
The reveal trailer highlights several exciting new gameplay elements while staying true to the series’ core stealth mechanics. Players can look forward to mind control abilities, time manipulation that freezes movement, and gliding capabilities that expand Styx’s already impressive mobility options. These tools will help navigate the game’s three vast open environments: The Wall, Turquoise Dawn (an orc village), and Akenash (the elven capital).
A departure from the more linear levels of previous games, Blades of Greed introduces Metroidvania-style progression. Players will unlock new areas by acquiring tools and abilities throughout their journey, encouraging exploration and experimentation with different paths and approaches.
The Styx series began as a spinoff from Of Orcs and Men, where the goblin protagonist first appeared. His solo outings in Master of Shadows (2014) and Shards of Darkness (2017) earned praise for their demanding stealth gameplay that punishes detection and rewards careful planning.
Developer Cyanide Studio has maintained the series’ focus on pure stealth rather than combat. While Styx can perform assassinations, open confrontation almost always leads to a quick death, forcing players to rely on shadows, distraction, and clever use of the environment.
Fan reaction to the announcement has been overwhelmingly positive. Many commenters have expressed excitement about the return of what they consider “hidden gems” in the stealth genre. The new abilities and open-world structure have caught particular interest, though some purists wonder how these elements will affect the hardcore stealth experience.
While not confirmed in the trailer, the game is expected to release on current-gen consoles and PC. Previous titles were available across multiple platforms, suggesting Blades of Greed will follow suit.
