Valve has confirmed when its long-awaited Steam Controller is hitting shelves. The company announced that the new pad will “arrive on Steam May 4 at 10 a.m. PT,” giving fans a firm date to mark down.
Pricing has also been locked in. The controller will sell for $99 USD. That puts it above standard first-party pads from Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo, but well below ultra-premium options like the DualSense Edge or Xbox Elite Series 2.
Valve isn’t pitching this as a generic controller. The Steam Controller leans hard into trackpads, gyro aiming, rear buttons, and deep Steam Input integration, the same software layer that makes the Steam Deck so flexible. A charging puck is also part of the package.
The trackpads are the headline feature. They let you handle mouse-style cursor input, radial menus, and games that were never built with a controller in mind. Strategy titles, point-and-click adventures, and older PC games suddenly become couch-friendly.
The most noted omission is a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is a real concern for late-night players who rely on wired audio for living-room PC setups. Some are also wondering how well the controller will work outside of Steam itself, though Valve has yet to spell out full compatibility details.
