CD Projekt Red is pulling some of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s most popular community mods straight into the game, and it’s doing it with the mod authors on board.
The studio is reportedly integrating fan-made improvements into an upcoming remastered version of the 2015 RPG, which is set to arrive as a free upgrade for people who already own the game.
The headline name here is Halk Hogan, creator of The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project. His mod overhauls thousands of environmental textures, terrain, stonework, wood, roads, buildings, and foliage, while sticking closely to the original art direction. It’s arguably the single most recommended visual mod for the PC version.
This isn’t the first time
CDPR already did a smaller version of this in December 2022. The next-gen update credited five community projects: Halk Hogan’s HD Reworked Project, HD Monsters Reworked by Denroth, Immersive Real-time Cutscenes by teiji25, Nitpicker’s Patch by chuckcash, and World Map Fixes by Terg500.
The difference this time is scale. That update used pieces of the HD Reworked Project. The new release is reportedly implementing a far more complete version of it.
The studio has also been building toward this for a while. It shipped the official REDkit modding tools for PC in May 2024, giving creators access to quests, environments, characters, dialogue, and gameplay systems.
The upgrade is also said to include official cross-platform mod support running through Mod.io, meaning console players would finally get access to community content without manually dragging files around. CDPR hasn’t detailed which platforms get what, or whether enabling mods will switch off trophies and achievements.
Fewer broken saves, hopefully
The practical win for PC players is obvious. No separate downloads, no checking whether a mod matches the latest patch, and no re-merging scripts every time an official update drops.
Integrated mods also stop being fragile. A standalone project dies the moment its creator moves on or a patch breaks it. Baked into the game, maintenance becomes CDPR’s problem.
