Dr Disrespect, who fell from glory in the beginning of June, made a return to the spotlight this week. His comeback stream on YouTube titled “The Truth” pulled in a whopping 175,000 viewers who were eager to hear what the streamer had to say.
The Doc’s return comes after allegations surfaced in June involving inappropriate messaging with a minor. The messages led to Twitch cancelling his contract and banning him in 2022, but he didn’t face any legal repercussions. However, the misconduct was reason enough for YouTube to stop monetising his channel and to distance themselves from the streamer.
Now, he thought, the time has come to let the world to know the Doc’s side of things. Dr Disrespect cranked up the moderation, slapping a 13-week subscriber requirement on chat. Just to be sure that only the most qualified viewers were able to join the chat.
The stream kicked off with a game of Wordle against his chat, but things took a weird turn when viewers started suggesting some not-so-family-friendly words. Who could have guessed?
When pressed about the allegations, the Doc went full deflection mode. He brushed off demands to see the message logs, calling it “immature.” Continuing on the topic, he defended himself and got pretty upset in the process.
The streamer spent a good chunk of time debating the finer points of “sexting” and “age of consent.” Not the best topic to prove one’s innocence.
Dr Disrespect also played the victim card, claiming he was the target of a “deplatforming” plot by Twitch. There have been rumors about the streamer’s departure from Twitch, with some suggesting that certain employees played a role in it. However, child protective services did not see a need to intervene after staff members reported the messages.
The streaming community is split after this unexpected come back stream. Without a doubt, the stream was a financial success, with donations coming in every minute. So the Doc still has many loyal fans out there. And with these viewer numbers, Dr Disrespect proves once again that in the world of streaming, controversy sells.
