Video said to come from Avalanche Studios’ unreleased Iron Man game has appeared online, giving the first real look at a project that was scrapped over a decade ago.

The clip appears to show an early development build. Iron Man flies freely through a large environment, fires repulsor blasts at groups of enemies, drops to the ground, and throws punches. Animations and effects look rough and unfinished, which fits a prototype rather than anything close to release.

Avalanche co-founder Christofer Sundberg first revealed the game existed back in 2022. He said Disney approached the Swedish studio in 2012, and Avalanche worked on the title for roughly two years before it was killed off.

Sundberg described the plan as more than just flying and shooting. Players would have been able to take off and “fly anywhere,” with Iron Man using his fists as well as repulsors. The combat direction was compared to the rhythm-based fighting from Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham games.

He also called the development a mess. According to his account, Disney wanted the game finished faster and expected Avalanche to hire a lot more staff to get there. Sundberg said that would have left the studio with a huge team and no work once the project wrapped, so cancellation was the safer call. That version of events comes from him alone, not a joint statement.

Iron Man was a natural fit for Just Cause

On paper, the match made sense. Avalanche built its name on Just Cause, a series about grappling hooks, wingsuits, huge open maps, and constant explosions. Mad Max in 2015 added vehicle and melee combat to that resume. Fast three-dimensional movement and destructible playgrounds are exactly what an Iron Man game needs.

Some fans have pointed at Just Cause 3’s Sky Fortress DLC, which gave Rico a weaponized Bavarium Wingsuit that basically turns him into a budget Iron Man. Whether any tech or ideas carried over from the canceled project has never been confirmed, so treat that as speculation.

Plenty of details remain unknown. There’s no confirmation of the map size, story, armor designs, target platforms, or whether it was tied to the MCU. It’s also unclear who obtained the build, when it was captured, or which stage of development it represents.
