TL;DR
  • Hasan Piker criticized by ex-colleague Anna Kasparian over Israel-Palestine comments.
  • Anna says Hasan has no self awareness in light of Brianna Wu accusations.
  • Who will turn their back on Hasan next?

Some things never change. One of Hasan Piker’s talents is attracting trouble from different people. This time Anna Kasparian, Hasan’s former colleague at The Young Turks (TYT), has publicly slammed the streamer for his recent inflammatory comments on the Israel-Palestine conflict and criticisms of Brianna Wu.

While anchoring the daily news show “TYT Now”, she could not help herself but to make a side-eyed comment towards Cenk Uygur about his nephew: “He [Hasan Piker] has no self awareness”. Right after her statement, Anna continued to read the news while co-host Cenk didn’t know where to put his eyes. This very awkward moment took place during TYT’s latest live stream on YouTube.

Hasan and Anna were co-workers for years at the progressive online news platform TYT, but it seems their friendship has gone downhill since then. The two have been at odds lately over a range of hot-button issues like policing, homelessness and Hasan’s hypocrisies. Anna’s views have shifted to a more moderate stance in the past months, while Hasan continues to beat the drum of hard-left politics.

The bad blood reached a boiling point after Hasan’s uncle and TYT founder Cenk Uygur started working with Brianna Wu—a frequent target of Hasan’s mockery. The streamer has ridiculed Wu for “stealing an Asian name for clout” and painted her as “pro-genocide” for her stances on the Israel-Palestine issue.

Yet, Hasan’s haters argue he’s the real hypocrite, living a life of luxury in his pricey LA pad while preaching the evils of wealth. His takes on geopolitics, from Israel to Crimea, have caused plenty of drama on Twitch with other streamers like Ludwig.

Progressive content creators are increasingly divided over issues of identity and foreign policy, with the TYT crew’s tensions only showing the tip of the iceberg. And as political debate moves to the battlegrounds of Twitch and YouTube, figures like Hasan further divide communities on the platform.
