Hideo Kojima has revealed that Bill Skarsgård is part of the lead cast of PHYSINT, the action-espionage game in development at Kojima Productions.
It’s the first major on-screen name attached to the project, and the first real hint at the kind of central character Kojima is building.
Skarsgård played Pennywise in It and It Chapter Two, the Marquis in John Wick: Chapter 4, Count Orlok in Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu, Keith in Barbarian, and led both Boy Kills World and The Crow.
He also comes from acting royalty. His father is Stellan Skarsgård, and his brothers Alexander and Gustaf are both established actors.
His casting isn’t a shock in terms of style. Skarsgård’s best work leans on physicality, facial transformation, and characters you can never quite read: useful traits in a story about spies.
Casting screen actors is standard practice for Kojima at this point. Metal Gear Solid V starred Kiefer Sutherland, while Death Stranding built its cast around Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux, Margaret Qualley, and Lindsay Wagner.
Skarsgård had his own trail of clues, including a studio visit where he reportedly walked away with a Yoji Shinkawa drawing of himself. Most expected him to turn up as a villain rather than at the front of the cast.
