Konami reportedly kept its Silent Hill studios away from each other’s work on purpose.

The goal was simple: stop ideas from jumping between projects. Each team would build its own version of Silent Hill without looking at what the others were doing.

Splitting Silent Hill between different creative visions is nothing new.

Silent Hill 2 dropped in 2001 with a new hero and a self-contained story about grief and guilt. Silent Hill 3 went straight back to the first game’s plot in 2003. Silent Hill 4: The Room tried a new premise and setting in 2004.

After the early Team Silent era, Konami handed the series to outside studios like Climax Studios, Double Helix Games, and Vatra Games.

The modern revival came after P.T. appeared in 2014 and Silent Hills was canceled in 2015. Since then, Konami has also released Silent Hill: Ascension in 2023 and the free PS5 game Silent Hill: The Short Message in January 2024. In June 2025 it announced a Bloober Team remake of the original Silent Hill.
