Karmine Corp are off the mark at Worlds.
The LEC side beat LPL team Anyone’s Legend in round one of the Swiss stage. It was a big win to start the tournament against one of China’s top teams.
KC move to one-zero. AL drop to zero-one.
In the Swiss format, teams usually play opponents with the same record. KC will now face another team that won its first match. AL will play a team that lost.
Three wins send a team to the knockout stage. Three losses send it home. At recent Worlds, opening matches have been best-of-one. Matches that decide who advances or who goes home have been best-of-three.
So this was one game. It wasn’t a series, and nobody’s tournament ended here.
A rough round for China
AL were not the only LPL team to struggle.
Bilibili Gaming also fell to Movistar KOI. That means two European teams beat two Chinese teams in the same round. Early results show the LPL finishing the first round zero–four, with all four of its teams losing their openers.
That’s the region’s combined record. Each LPL team is zero–one, not out of the tournament.
There are already questions about whether this is the LPL’s worst-ever start at Worlds. Nobody’s confirmed that yet.
AL still have plenty of room to recover. One loss in Swiss is a setback, not a death sentence. Teams have reached the knockout stage after losing their first match before.
