Streamer MarIsNotOkay recently went full Kratos for a stream, but the costume ended up reminding viewers of someone very different.
The outfit hit all the key God of War notes. Mar had the ash-white skin, the red markings running across the face, a bald head, and a thick dark beard styled after the modern version of the character.
But that beard reminded viewers of someone else: NBA star James Harden. He is one of the most recognizable players in the league, is famous for his heavy, dark beard. Fans literally call him “The Beard.” Pair that with a shaved head and a serious expression, and the resemblance suddenly clicks.
For anyone new to the series, Kratos is the star of Sony’s God of War franchise, which started back in 2005. He began as a Spartan warrior in Greek mythology before the newer games moved him into the Norse world.
His pale skin isn’t just makeup, either. In the story, Kratos is cursed after being tricked into killing his wife and daughter. Their ashes bind to his skin, earning him the name “Ghost of Sparta.”
The bearded, bald design from God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök is the version that lines up so neatly with Harden.
