Remedy Entertainment has confirmed that CONTROL Resonant has gone gold. The release master is finished and approved, which means the studio’s supernatural action sequel is locked in for launch.

The same announcement came with less welcome news for collectors. Physical editions, including preordered steelbook copies, are now scheduled for October 15. The digital version is still expected to arrive earlier, so disc buyers will be waiting a while after everyone else has already jumped in.

Remedy didn’t give a reason for the physical date shift. Preorders haven’t been canceled, and there’s no word on physical buyers receiving early digital codes, so treat that idea as wishful thinking until a retailer says otherwise.

Gold status used to refer to the gold master disc used for manufacturing. These days it simply means the launch build is done and cleared for release production.

It doesn’t mean development has stopped. Studios routinely keep working on day-one patches, performance fixes, localization tweaks, and post-launch content long after a game goes gold. It also doesn’t guarantee a bug-free launch.

CONTROL Resonant is the follow-up to Remedy’s 2019 hit Control, the project previously known as Control 2. This time the focus shifts to Dylan Faden, brother of original protagonist Jesse and a central figure in the events that dragged her into the Federal Bureau of Control in the first place.

The combat looks noticeably different too. Jesse was a mobile ranged fighter built around the shape-shifting Service Weapon, telekinesis, and levitation. Dylan leans far more into close-range brawling, and the game moves beyond the shifting brutalist halls of the Oldest House into a warped city environment.

The trippy Remedy identity is very much intact, with altered architecture, paranatural events, and government-agency weirdness all present. The game also sits inside the Remedy Connected Universe, the shared continuity that ties Control to Alan Wake, established through the AWE expansion and continued in Alan Wake 2.

A messy road to the finish line

The sequel was first confirmed in 2022 as a collaboration with publisher 505 Games. Remedy then bought the full Control rights back in 2024, covering the original game, the sequel, and the multiplayer spin-off codenamed Condor. A later partnership with Annapurna brought financing for the sequel plus film and TV ambitions for both Control and Alan Wake.

Anyone holding a physical preorder should check with their retailer for updated shipping estimates, since October 15 may not apply identically to every region, platform, or edition.
