Eefje “Sjokz” Depoortere got hit hard by Resident Evil Requiem on stream this week, tearing up during the scene where Grace Ashcroft watches her mother die.
The LEC host was midway through a live playthrough of Capcom’s latest survival horror entry when the game reaches its cutscene involving Grace and her mother, Alyssa Ashcroft. Alyssa is killed, Grace sees it happen, and the scene ends with a long, raw scream.
Depoortere went quiet and became visibly emotional as it played out. The moment carried extra weight because her own mother died several years ago, something she has spoken about publicly.
She didn’t stop the broadcast. After collecting herself, she carried on with the playthrough, and viewers watching live confirmed she “powered through” and kept going.
Fans pointed to Angela Sant’Albano’s performance as Grace as the reason the moment lands so hard. The mix of terror and grief in the scream, plus how well it syncs with the animation, had people calling it one of the strongest pieces of voice work in the game.
Alyssa isn’t a throwaway name either. She debuted as one of the eight playable survivors in Resident Evil Outbreak on PS2, where she was a journalist stuck in the Raccoon City outbreak. Longtime fans were happy to see the deep cut return, and much less happy about how it goes for her.
