VirtualGemma took serious offense to a teammate calling her “lady” mid-match in Marvel Rivals.
The exchange started like any other tense team comms moment. VirtualGemma had been directing her squad, reportedly criticizing a teammate’s gameplay, when the player fired back by addressing her as “lady.” That single word was enough to derail the entire conversation.

Instead of brushing it off, VirtualGemma pushed back hard. She questioned whether the teammate was being “sensitive” and shot back by calling him a “little boy.”
“Lady” sits in a weird linguistic gray zone. On paper, it’s polite or neutral. When you’re in a heated lobby with someone snapping orders at you, it can land more like “okay, calm down, lady.” VirtualGemma clearly read it the second way.
The mismatch between her complaint and her comeback became the main talking point. “Lady” refers to an adult woman. “Little boy” goes straight for infantilizing. If she was looking for a clean gendered swap, “sir” or “man” would have done the job.
