Arky and Bonnie kicked off their livestreamed Iceland motorcycle trip this week, and day one didn’t go smoothly.
Clips from the stream show Bonnie losing balance and dropping her bike several times, mostly while pulling away, coming to a stop, or turning at walking pace.
These weren’t high-speed crashes, but the kind of tip-overs that happen when a bike slows down and the rider can’t hold it up. Embarrassing, expensive for the fairings, but not violent.
Both streamers are riding their own bikes rather than doubling up. Viewers identified the machines as KTM adventure models, with Bonnie’s widely described as a 390 Adventure.
Adventure bikes sit high, the 390 Adventure has a seat height of around 855mm, and viewers said Bonnie couldn’t get both feet flat on the ground. A tall bike isn’t automatically a problem for a shorter rider, plenty of people ride tiptoed, but combine it with limited experience, constant stopping and starting, and wet roads, and you get exactly what the stream showed.
Motorcycles balance themselves at speed. Below walking pace, everything depends on clutch control, a little rear brake, smooth throttle, and looking where you’re going. Someone can look totally fine cruising in a straight line and still struggle badly in a parking lot.
Chat on the handlebars
The other detail that got attention: mounted phones on the bikes appearing to display Twitch chat while riding.
Mounted maps are normal for motorcyclists. A scrolling chat window is a different animal, since it never stops updating and offers nothing useful about the road ahead.
There were also questions about preparation. Viewers who caught the start of the stream said the pair had been in Iceland for a few days trying to teach Bonnie to ride, and that they considered not going live at all because she was struggling with that specific bike.
As of now, no injury, no collision, no police involvement, and no cancellation has been reported. Day one ended with a bruised bike and a very loud chat.
