Demon1 is starting what he calls his “streamer arc.”
The 2023 VALORANT world champion has signaled that streaming will be a bigger part of his life going forward. Beyond that, details are thin.
Nothing points to a retirement. A streaming phase doesn’t mean Maximilian “Demon1” Mazanov is done with pro play.
The Envy question
The news has landed during a period of confusion about Envy’s VALORANT plans.
Some fans believe the org said it wasn’t fully committed to staying in the game, which would leave its players free to look elsewhere. Others remember a different message. In their version, Envy missed out on partnership but isn’t leaving VALORANT.
No official statement tied to this news supports either version.
Envy hasn’t announced that Demon1 has been released. Nobody has said he’s a free agent. Nobody has said that the org’s situation pushed him toward streaming either.
A benched player can still be under contract. A player allowed to explore offers isn’t automatically a free agent. Missing out on partnership also doesn’t force an org out of VALORANT, since teams can still compete through Riot’s other competitive routes.
Why it matters
Demon1 isn’t just any roster player.
He was one of the standout performers in Evil Geniuses’ run to the VALORANT Champions 2023 title. EG beat Paper Rex three–one in the grand final. Earlier that year, the same team reached the Masters Tokyo final, where it lost to Fnatic.
He joined NRG ahead of the 2024 season and later moved out of the team’s starting lineup.
Envy has its own history in the game. Its early roster reached the Masters Berlin 2021 final, where it lost to Gambit, before that lineup moved under the OpTic Gaming banner in 2022.
