Lauri “Cyanide” Happonen has died at the age of 31.
The Finnish jungler won the first League of Legends World Championship with Fnatic in 2011.
Cyanide belonged to the first generation of League of Legends pros.
In 2011, Fnatic won the Season one World Championship at DreamHack Summer in Jönköping, Sweden. The team beat against All authority in the final.
Cyanide played jungle. Junglers move between the lanes, take neutral objectives, and set up attacks for their teammates. Fans called him the “Smite king” for his objective steals.
His run with Fnatic lasted through 2014. During that time, the team moved from early tournaments into Riot’s EU LCS. Fnatic also reached the semifinals of the 2013 World Championship, where the team lost to Royal Club.
His championship win also lives on inside the game. Fnatic Jarvan IV, often shortened to “Fnatic J4,” is part of the skin set honoring Fnatic’s 2011 title team.
After his main playing years, Cyanide appeared as a guest analyst on EU LCS broadcasts. Viewers remember him for his dry and cheeky humor. He also kept playing in showmatches and exhibition events over the years.
