Jacob “valyn” Batio is reportedly heading to Fnatic. According to Sheep Esports, the American controller player and in-game leader is set to join the EMEA team for the 2027 VALORANT season.

If it goes through, the move takes valyn from the Americas to Europe. He would bring Fnatic two things in one player: a controller on smokes and a proven shotcaller.

valyn made his name with The Guard. He led the team to the North American Stage 1 Challengers title in 2022. In 2023, the same roster won VCT Ascension Americas.

G2 Esports then picked up most of that lineup and entered VCT Americas for 2024. That year, valyn and G2 finished third at Masters Shanghai, one of their best international runs.

Two brains one comms

The biggest question is about leadership. Cloud has handled calling duties for Fnatic, so a new IGL raises obvious questions.

Fnatic knows a thing or two about strong leadership. With Boaster calling the shots, the team finished second at Masters Reykjavík in 2021. Then they won both LOCK//IN São Paulo and Masters Tokyo in 2023. No one has confirmed whether valyn is meant to fill that kind of role.
