Doublelift’s Retirement Home event wrapped up with a full five-game final at Team Liquid’s Alienware Training Facility, and Voyboy sealed it the only way that made sense: with a pentakill.
The in-person tournament gathered former North American League of Legends pros for a competitive but loose reunion. The winning roster reportedly included Voyboy, Froggen, Svenskeren, Sneaky, and LemonNation, capping off a series packed with throwback picks and old-school playstyles.
The decider went the distance, with Silver Scrapes rolling for Game five like the old LCS days. Froggen pulled out Karthus mid and made it look like the pick had never left the meta, while also flashing his classic precision on champions like Xerath. Svenskeren’s Lee Sin came up big late, including a finishing moment that fans immediately compared to his SSG series years ago.
Then came Voyboy. “The Kid” closed the final game with a pentakill, giving the entire event a storybook ending. His itemization on Tryndamere also became a running joke during the broadcast as he tried to recreate the long-removed Frozen Mallet using modern slow items.
The event ran during MSI, which likely capped its viewership ceiling, but it still pulled strong engagement and immediate demand for a sequel. Fans are already floating ideas for a yearly version or a full retiree invitational circuit.
Voyboy never racked up the same trophy count as some of his peers during his pro career. Getting the final pentakill in a tournament built around his era of League is the kind of ending writers would get told to cut for being too on the nose.
