Jagex has revealed a teaser for a new RuneScape MMO, also known as RuneScape 4.
This isn’t a graphics update for an existing game. It’s a separate project that will exist alongside RuneScape, Old School RuneScape, and RuneScape: Dragonwilds.
The game is set in Gielinor, the main RuneScape world. It reportedly begins in Ashenfall, the continent players first explored in Dragonwilds.
The new MMO is also said to follow RuneScape 3 lore. It’s set in the Sixth Age, years after the events of Dragonwilds. In RS3‘s story, the Sixth Age is the era when the gods return to Gielinor in a big way.
Born from a Dragonwilds expansion
Dragonwilds is a survival-crafting game, not an MMO. It entered PC early access in April 2025 with solo play and co-op for up to four players.
Players kept asking for more. They wanted persistent servers and bigger groups.
A Dragonwilds producer explained that the team first started working on an expansion to deliver those features. As the design work and prototype testing grew, the team realized it was really building a new MMO.
Don’t expect to play it soon. The announcement reportedly says the game is “still a few years away.” There’s no release date, launch year, or beta schedule.
