PS5 emulation just hit an early milestone. A new compatibility report says 55 PS5 titles were tested on SharpEmu, a PS5 emulator. Twelve could be played, and six reached what the report calls a “playable 60 FPS.”
The six named games are:
- Dreaming Sarah
- Void Terrarium
- New Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninja
- Tetris Forever
- Hoa
- Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered
Look closely and you’ll see small games. Most are indie titles or retro-style releases. Several of them also came out on PS4.
The biggest name is Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered. That is a 3D collection of classic games from the late 1990s and early 2000s, so the list is not all 2D. It’s still far from a modern AAA game that pushes the hardware.
Every game uses the console’s hardware and software in different ways. A handful of lighter games running well doesn’t mean the wider PS5 library will follow.
Emulators usually grow this way. Developers start with simple games and work up to heavier ones. The PS4 emulator shadPS4 took a similar path before bigger games like Bloodborne became playable.
