Despite some wild speculations in the past months, Dr. Disrespect will not be joining Kick any time soon. In a recent stream, Kick CEO Ed Craven was joined by Rod Breslau, aka “Slasher” who interviewed him on some of the hottest topics surrounding the platform. Craven announced that they decided not to offer a contract to Dr. Disrespect.
He further stated that signing Dr. Disrespect “doesn’t make business sense” right now. It’s a clear statement that should put an end to claims that the Doc might be making a move to the green side.
The Doctor is currently reapplying for monetization on YouTube. He lost this privilege following allegations of inappropriate exchanges with a minor, that lead to his ban from Twitch in 2020.
Everyone in the streaming community is wondering what alternatives the Doc has left now. After all, he still has a massive following, which he proved during his comeback stream in September. Some fans suggest Facebook Gaming or Rumble as potential new homes for the two-time champion. However, no official announcements have been made.
Kick’s strategy aligns with recent changes in the industry, including Twitch’s move away from exclusive contracts. It’s not a secret that streaming platforms are struggling with their profitability. Huge deals simply don’t make sense for those providers anymore.
For Dr. Disrespect, the path forward is unclear. If YouTube denies his monetization request, he may need to consider alternative platforms or rely more heavily on direct fan support and third-party sponsorships.
Many in the Doc’s fan base are hoping for a quick resolution to his monetization issues. However, the controversies might have killed his career for good this time.
