LowTierGod has shared his thoughts on the newly revealed God of War Laufey, and they aren’t what most viewers expected. The streamer pushed back against complaints about the game starring Laufey, also known as Faye, Kratos’ late wife and Atreus’ mother.

In the clip, LTG argued that a female protagonist isn’t a reason to write off a game. He said he has no problem playing as a woman and that fans should wait to see how the title actually turns out before tearing it down.

He also brought up The Last of Us Part II during his take, using it as an example in the wider conversation about playing as characters audiences may not initially want to control.

The new God of War footage appears to put Faye front and center. The character wakes up in a cage and sets off on a heavily cinematic action sequence, shot in the one-take style that defined the 2018 reboot and Ragnarök.

She isn’t alone. The trailer introduces a talking cube companion, alongside a talking sword, a large dog-like creature, and a character with a burning head. The footage looks like a polished Sony first-party production with third-person combat and cinematic presentation.

Kratos is nowhere to be seen as the playable lead, which is the main sticking point for a chunk of the fanbase. Some fans say they only play God of War to control Kratos. Others have taken issue with the cube companion’s quippy dialogue, comparing it to Forspoken and accusing the writing of “Marvelization.”

Still, others have pointed out that comic relief is nothing new for the modern God of War games. Brok, Sindri, Mimir, and Ratatoskr all filled that role across the Norse saga.

Why Faye matters

Faye, whose mythological name is Laufey, has loomed over the modern God of War games without ever being playable. She is a Jötunn, the mother of Atreus/Loki, and the reason Kratos goes on his journey in the 2018 game after her death. Ragnarök expanded her presence through memories and flashbacks, hinting at a much larger backstory tied to prophecy and the war with the Aesir.

A game built around her would let Santa Monica Studio dig into her life before Kratos, her role among the Giants, and the events that set the entire Norse saga in motion. Deborah Ann Woll played Faye in Ragnarök, though her involvement in this new project hasn’t yet been officially confirmed.
