A livestream on Twitch streamer Aesdr’s channel turned into a real crime scene when Navy sailor Matthew Horn was shot six times inside a Tarzana home. He survived. A 22-year-old suspect, Sean Strong, was later arrested and charged with attempted murder.
The shooting happened in the early hours of April 18 at a home in Tarzana, a quiet neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley. According to FOX 11 Los Angeles, four men barged into the residence around 2 a.m. and demanded $2,500 in cash.
Aesdr told FOX LA he tried to talk the men down and offered to hand over half the money. The men allegedly refused and said they would kill everyone inside if they didn’t get the full amount. That’s when Horn stepped in, armed with bear spray.
Horn told FOX LA he tried to scare the men off by identifying himself as a sailor. “I let him know I’m military, hopefully to scare him off, hopefully make him run,” he said. He also warned them: “If you don’t leave, I’m gonna spray you.”
Instead of backing off, the gunman pulled out a firearm. Horn was shot six times, three rounds in the front and three in the back. “He was trying to kill me,” Horn said.
Horn was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and underwent surgery. He survived, and credited his recovery to faith.
The party that got out of hand
According to reporting from the Daily Mail, the confrontation may have grown out of a botched event arrangement. Someone allegedly reached out to the household on Instagram asking to host a “small event” at the property. The hosts agreed.
Instead, more than 100 people reportedly showed up, prompting calls to the police to shut it down. The Instagram contact was allegedly a middleman, and the people connected to the event later came back demanding money.
The hosts reportedly tried to explain the misunderstanding and offered to return part of the cash, saying the rest had already been spent on cleaners and event prep. LAPD told FOX LA the shooting appeared to stem from a business dispute that escalated.
Sean Strong, 22, was arrested in connection with the shooting and charged with attempted murder. FOX LA reported his bail was set at $2 million. It isn’t clear whether the other men who allegedly entered the home have been identified or charged.
