Rockstar has a new Grand Theft Auto VI presentation on the way, and it’s landing in a very unusual place first.

Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on Thursday, August 27 at 3 p.m. ET. Everyone else gets it later the same day. The presentation is set to go live on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the official GTA VI website at 9 p.m. ET.

So it isn’t a Netflix exclusive. It’s a six-hour timed premiere, then a normal free release. That alone makes this notable. Game presentations usually debut on publisher channels, YouTube, Twitch, or a big industry showcase. Handing a mainstream subscription streaming service the first window is new territory for Rockstar, a studio that normally controls every step of its marketing itself.

Rockstar hasn’t detailed the runtime, whether the video contains raw gameplay, whether it’s narrated, or whether anyone from the studio appears on camera. The title says “extended look,” and that’s all it says.

Rockstar has done long-form gameplay overview videos before, most famously for Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2.

It’s unclear whether the Netflix premiere needs an active subscription, which regions it covers, and whether it counts as a live event or a fixed-time drop. Some users have reported inconsistent availability messages on regional Netflix pages, so anyone outside the US may want to keep the 9 p.m. ET YouTube release as their backup plan.

Netflix and Rockstar have crossed paths before. Netflix has been pushing into gaming for years, and it previously offered mobile versions of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition to subscribers.
