Initiators are getting some love back in VALORANT patch 13.00. According to previewed changes, signature ability cooldowns for the class will drop by 10 seconds, reportedly moving from 60 down to 50.
The adjustment looks like a blanket, class-wide buff rather than agent-by-agent tuning. That means Sova, Breach, KAY/O, Fade, and Skye all stand to benefit, with Gekko and Tejo’s inclusion still unclear given their unique recovery mechanics.
A 10-second cut might sound small, but VALORANT rounds run on tight windows. The pre-plant clock is 1:40 and the post-plant timer is 45 seconds. Trim a cooldown and suddenly a Recon Bolt fired at the start of a round can come back for the retake. A Breach stun used on the default can return for the execute.
Practically, expect more frequent info gathering, more layered executes, and better utility availability for post-plants and retakes. Attacking sides should feel the boost most, since Initiators do their heaviest lifting on entries.
The class-wide approach is the part getting people talking. A Breach stun and a Sova dart don’t do the same job, and standardizing their cooldowns flattens what used to be unique agent timings. Riot appears to be prioritizing readability and class consistency over bespoke balancing, even if that decision creates odd matchups between very different abilities sharing the same number.
