Asmongold has handed Destiny a rare compliment, calling him the reason modern streaming careers like his own exist at all.
“Reason why xQc and I also have a lot of respect for Destiny, [is] because if it wasn’t for Destiny, all three of us wouldn’t exist,” Asmongold said during a recent stream. The “three” in question: Asmongold, xQc, and Hasan Piker.
Destiny was one of the first people to treat livestreaming as a full-time job. He blew up during the early StarCraft II era, back when streamers were duct-taping their setups together across Justin.tv, Ustream, and Own3D before Twitch became the default.
His broadcasts were never just gameplay. Long rants, viewer conversations, and arguments with anyone who joined the call turned into the format we now call Just Chatting. He later leaned fully into live political debate, making him one of the first gaming streamers to successfully switch lanes into politics.
That’s the model Asmongold is pointing at: one person, one webcam, no script, no producer, jumping between games, internet drama, and current events for hours a day.
It’s also worth noting Destiny wasn’t alone in shaping early streaming. Reckful and Sodapoppin proved viewer donations could fund a career, and Day9 built the template for polished esports broadcasting.
