TL;DR
  • ENGH is set to join FNATIC's VALORANT staff ahead of Stage 2, in what appears to be a coaching change involving Milan's spot.
  • ENGH built his reputation winning Masters Berlin 2021 with Gambit but had a turbulent run at Karmine Corp after their VCT EMEA Kickoff 2024 win.
  • FNATIC is coming off a disappointing stretch and will need ENGH to fit quickly alongside IGL Boaster with Champions qualification on the line.

Andrey “ENGH” Sholokhov is reportedly heading to FNATIC. The Russian coach is set to join the EMEA giants’ VALORANT setup ahead of Stage 2 of the VCT season.

ENGH made his name with Gambit Esports, building one of the most respected tactical systems in early professional VALORANT. He guided the team to the Masters Berlin 2021 title and a grand final appearance at VALORANT Champions 2021, where they fell to Acend. That stretch, later continued under the M3 Champions banner, cemented him as one of the best coaches in the game.

His most recent stop was Karmine Corp, and the story there was far messier. ENGH started strong, winning VCT EMEA Kickoff 2024 and taking the team to Masters Madrid. After that early high, results dropped off, agent compositions were questioned, and the team’s tactical identity became a frequent talking point.

A high-risk move at the worst possible time

FNATIC’s situation makes the timing especially interesting. The org behind back-to-back international wins at VCT LOCK//IN São Paulo 2023 and Masters Tokyo 2023 has slipped well below its own standards this season, missing international events that used to feel automatic.

The report has been widely framed as ENGH stepping in for Milan, who had been part of FNATIC’s coaching structure and was credited by parts of the fanbase for the team’s recent deep runs. ENGH’s exact title and Milan’s exact status haven’t yet been confirmed by the organization.

Whatever the role, ENGH will be working with Jake “Boaster” Howlett, the veteran IGL who has been the strategic backbone of every FNATIC roster. That fit is the central question. ENGH’s strengths sit in structure, preparation, and set strategies, and FNATIC already has a clear identity and a leader who runs the room. Much of the criticism aimed at his Karmine Corp tenure focused on roster-building and balance, problems that may not apply here.

Stage 2 leaves little room for a slow start. It’s typically the final stretch that decides VALORANT Champions qualification, meaning ENGH would be expected to install his ideas, tweak the map pool, and get FNATIC firing almost immediately.
