Over the past few weeks, a World of Warcraft Hardcore guild has been the hot topic in the streaming community: OnlyFangs.

Streamers screaming as they accidentally aggro an entire dungeon, chat blowing up with “F,” and their entire faction losing points and leading to funny punishments. Welcome to OnlyFangs, the streamer super-guild that’s part survival, part comedy gold, and 100% drama.

What is OnlyFangs?

OnlyFangs is a guild founded by Sodapoppin as a way to unite streamers under a single banner in World of Warcraft Hardcore. The guild’s goal is twofold: To tackle the brutal permadeath challenges of Hardcore mode while providing wildly entertaining content for their massive online audiences.

In WoW Hardcore, every decision matters because death is permanent. If a character dies, it’s gone for good. This high-stakes approach has created a unique challenge that rewards careful planning, precise execution, and a bit of luck.

Unlike traditional Hardcore guilds, which aim to reach end-game content and tackle the game’s most difficult challenges, OnlyFangs leans heavily into the personalities of its members, combining in-game adventures with humor, chaos, and a fair share of drama.

While some focus on min-maxing their character to defeat raid bosses, others barely manage to level up their characters or prefer to spend their time role-playing rather than aiming for maximum efficiency in their roles.

In 2023, OnlyFangs gained popularity by welcoming both seasoned veterans and World of Warcraft newbies. Streamers who barely played WoW before like Emiru, Pokelawls, xQc, CohhCarnage, Pokimane, and Veibae made their first steps in this permadeath mode, leading to funny clips and some rage quits. Other OnlyFangs members had more experience with WoW—like Ziqoftw, Xaryu, Graycen, Ahmpy, SONII, AnnieFuchsia, Esfand, Fandy, and Sardaco.

OnlyFangs came back in November 2024 for a new season, promising viewers a share of new drama and adventures to discover on the streamers’ Twitch channels. Sodapoppin is back as the guild’s leader, inviting fellow streamers to join his adventures on WoW Hardcore.

The streamers behind OnlyFangs

OnlyFangs boasts an impressive roster of well-known streamers. This new season gathers once again both World of Warcraft newbies and seasoned veterans, offering a mix of high-end gameplay and funny fails, in a mode where any mistake can lead to the permanent death of a character.

Leading the charge is Sodapoppin, the guild’s founder. OnlyFangs stars various streamers like Tyler1, Zizaran, TimTheTatman, Pilavpowa, Masayoshi, Barny, Savix, and JokerdTV.

There is also Mizkif, who recently pleaded with Blizzard to resurrect his character after he died following a bugged duel against Nikala. Even though he begged Blizzard, claiming he was a Twitch star, they didn’t bring his character back.

Fellow OnlyFangs member Summit1g recently expressed his dislike for role-play but still enjoys his WoW Hardcore adventure. EsfandTV is also part of the guild, despite regularly failing to reach level 20 in WoW Hardcore.

How OnlyFangs keeps the chaos organized

OnlyFangs members have a few rules to follow: They can’t access the Auction House, receive mail, trade with any player outside of the guild, or raid with anyone that is not part of OnlyFangs. They also can’t access the bank until they reach level 60, which is quite a challenge on WoW Hardcore.

On top of these rules, OnlyFangs members need to take a quiz upon being invited to this selective group of streamers. This quiz, created by SgtPepperTTV, features a bunch of questions that aim to determine which Horde faction fits each player’s personality.

After answering questions ranging from “How do you react to unexpected opportunities?” to “What is your ideal vacation?,” players are sorted either into one of the Hordes factions: Orc, Undead, Tauren, or Troll. Their character must be from the selected race.

During their adventures throughout Azeroth, players can earn or lose points for their faction. Completing challenges like leveling up or clearing specific dungeons can earn them points for their team. Dying or killing a fellow guild member costs points.

At the end of each week, the faction with the most points earns rewards, and the faction with the least points receives a punishment. While the rewards are usually better chances at raid gear or in-game bonuses, punishments are mostly real-life challenges to perform on stream, like eating something really hot, reading all quests out loud, or playing with settings fixed by OnlyFang’s guild leader Sodapoppin.

Drama and controversies surrounding OnlyFangs

Drama has become almost synonymous with OnlyFangs. Streamers regularly fight over pretty much any topic, like when Sodapoppin pranked Tyler1 or when the streamers had a full-on battle regarding whether they should role-play or min-max their roles.

Summit1g got in trouble after making negative remarks about role-players in WoW Hardcore. Many saw his comments as dismissive of a community that values immersion and storytelling. Burn didn’t seem to have any issue with role-playing, as he ended up with a seven-day Twitch ban for erotic role-play in WoW.

On a similar topic, Twitch streamer MOONMOON criticized fellow OnlyFangs guild member Sardaco on his gameplay, sparking discussion between those who enjoy a laid-back approach to the game and others who aim for the best performance.

One major point of contention revolves around the perceived privilege that comes with being a streamer in a guild like OnlyFangs. Critics argue that members benefit unfairly from their massive fanbases, which provide them with in-game resources and assistance through the Fangsly guild.

This has led some to claim that the guild’s Hardcore experience isn’t as authentic as that of regular players. Despite the backlash, guild members have brushed off these accusations, emphasizing that their focus is on creating content for their audiences.

Another recurring criticism is what some call the “carry culture” within OnlyFangs. Hardcore purists have accused the guild of relying too heavily on fans to complete difficult challenges, undermining the self-reliant spirit of the mode. Since OnlyFangs members can team up with viewers to complete dungeons and quests, some players feel like this derails from the whole challenge of WoW Hardcore.

Can you join the exclusive guild?

Joining OnlyFangs isn’t as simple as filling out an application. The guild operates more like an exclusive club for streamers than a traditional WoW guild.

To even be considered, you’ll need to be a streamer with a significant following or strong connection to existing OnlyFangs members. Many members are brought in via direct invitation, often through personal relationships with Sodapoppin or other members. For those without friends within the guild, the best shot at joining OnlyFangs is to be popular enough to bring value to this eclectic team of content creators.

Even if you’re not part of OnlyFangs, you may still get a chance to play with this streamer gang. Viewers grouped up in a guild named Fangsly, aimed at helping their favorite streamer reach level 60 without dying.

Members of Fangsly need to play the same race as their favorite streamer in order to help them completing dungeons or defeating elite opponents. Once at level 60, Fangsly members can trade materials and consumables with OnlyFangs members of their race. So even if you’re not part of OnlyFangs, you can still give a hand in their challenge.

With WoW Hardcore growing in popularity, OnlyFangs shows no signs of slowing down. For better or worse, OnlyFangs isn’t just a guild, but a content-creation machine that feeds on drama and funny clips. Whether you’re a diehard fan or a skeptical observer, the saga of OnlyFangs is far from over.
