The Blood of Dawnwalker has reportedly passed one million copies sold two days after its launch.
It’s a big result. This is Rebel Wolves’ first game ever, a brand-new IP, sold at full price, with no license or franchise name to lean on.
Rebel Wolves was founded in Warsaw in 2022 by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who was game director on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Creative director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz also came from CD Projekt Red. That pedigree is why comparisons to The Witcher 3 followed the game everywhere, even though the setting, systems, and combat are entirely different.
The game is a single-player action RPG built in Unreal Engine 5 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. It’s set in a fictional version of 14th-century Europe, in a Carpathian region wrecked by war and plague, where vampires have taken over. You play as Coen, a half-human, half-vampire “dawnwalker” trying to save his family.
The clock is the real boss
The headline mechanic is time. Coen has a limited number of in-game days, with players reporting roughly 30, and time is spent in chunks on specific quests, activities, and upgrades rather than ticking away while you explore. Activities tell you upfront how many segments they’ll cost. Day and night change what Coen can do and how he fights.
Running out of time doesn’t hand you a game over screen. It pushes you toward a different, less happy ending instead. Players say the prologue feels tight, but the main game loosens up enough to clear most major questlines with days to spare.
Reception has been split between story and polish. Praise has gone to the writing, atmosphere, art direction, voice acting, and quest choices. Complaints have focused on PC performance, stuttering, clunky traversal, unreliable lock-on, and camera trouble in group fights.
